CBA – Life Insurance Demerger

Background

In late 2018, CBA announced the $3.8 billion sale of its Life Insurance business to AIA. The transaction required the full migration of CommInsure assets — spanning data, people, processes, and systems — into AIA. For CBA, this was a large-scale de-merger; for AIA, a complex merger and integration programme. The scope involved hundreds of interdependent integration points across two global organisations, with a 20-year distribution agreement adding further operational and compliance requirements.

Solution

Logicore played a leading role in this transformation. We led the de-merger of systems and processes across CBA Life Insurance, General Insurance, and Loan Protection Insurance. Our team designed the Business, Information, Integration, and Security architectures to support this major migration project, ensuring a controlled transition of critical assets. We worked across both organisations to align data flows, streamline processes, and embed secure integration pathways that enabled long-term operational continuity.

Outcome & Deliverables

The programme established a sustainable operating model between CBA and AIA, enabling CBA to distribute AIA life insurance products under the 20-year strategic agreement. Hundreds of integration points were successfully delivered with minimal disruption to customers.

Our Key deliverables included:

  • Migration Architecture and Design
  • Process Maps for critical systems and operations
  • Impact Assessments across business units
  • Integration Design to support the 20-year distribution agreement
  • Migration Plan detailing current, transition, and future states

This combination of outcomes and artefacts provided both immediate stability and a blueprint for future large-scale, cross-institutional transformations in the financial services sector.
